Abstract

Historically, sperm have been seen as simply a mechanism of transferring a haploid set of chromosomes to the oocyte. However, data from assisted reproduction therapies (ART) have demonstrated that in many couples the sperm appears to be responsible for abnormal embryogenesis. Recent advances in genetic and epigenetic techniques have identified key mechanisms by which the sperm, and the DNA carried by the sperm, can affect early embryonic development. Paternal Influences on Human Reproductive Success examines the genetic and epigenetic influences on embryogenesis, as well as practical clinical factors related to the male contribution to reproductive success. It also provides 'cutting edge' data and analysis of recent evaluations of the role of advanced paternal age, environmental influences and lifestyle factors on male reproductive fitness, making this an invaluable text for physicians treating patients for infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, and developmental anomalies, as well as basic scientists studying embryogenesis and spermatogenesis.

Abstract

Men with cancer rendered infertile by surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and hormone therapy that are needed to control or cure their disease are increasingly being offered the chance to preserve their reproductive potential through artificial reproductive technologies. Cryopreservation of sperm and testicular tissue have increasingly helped boys and men preserve their fertility. There is a growing subspecialty within reproductive medicine aimed at fertility preservation in this population. Furthermore, strategies are being developed that may in the future revolutionize the approach to such patients. Written by international authorities in the field of fertility preservation, this comprehensive book is aimed at clinicians dealing with male cancer patients, in particular, urologists, andrologists, oncologists, pediatricians and nursing staff as well as clinicians in reproductive endocrinology. The text reviews the impact of cancers and their treatment on male fertility, the available fertility preservation strategies and post-treatment management.

Abstract

Clinical Urologic Endocrinology: Principles for Men’s Health provides an organized, accessible reference on men’s endocrinological health.   Over 30 million men in the US alone suffer from erectile dysfunction and over 13 million men in the US suffer from hypogonadism (low testosterone). One out of seven couples also suffer from subfertility of which 50-60% have male factor involvement. More and more men are coming forward to seek treatment for such issues, which in the past were considered taboo and there is a strong need for a book which provides guidance for practitioners who support men in their reproductive and sexual concerns. This book covers in depth the key issues in male reproductive health in one easy-to-use resource.    Clinical Urologic Endocrinology: Principles for Men’s Health is a valuable reference for urologists, endocrinologists, internal medicine physicians, family medicine physicians, sex therapists, and allied health professionals providing care for men in the areas of sexual health, fertility, and men’s endocrinological health. .
